Benefits of Nostalgia

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we dusted off old family videos. My family and I had a blast watching the VHS tapes. Yes, a VCR was already present :-) It’s amazing how some things change so drastically and others remain the same. Reminiscing through old photos and videos continues to be a favorite pastime of mine. I can’t think of many other things that bring people together in such a lighthearted way. The young, the old, the gals, the guys…all willingly join in on the experience. One event sparks the memory of another and stories upon stories are shared. There’s laughter, sometimes tears and always good conversation.

I was once again reminded of the joy evoked by nostalgia and had to do some research. Come to find out there are quite a few studies which confirm the power of nostalgia. A Huffington Post article captured many of the benefits:

Helps people relate their past experiences to their present lives in order to make greater meaning of it all.

Increases feelings of social connectedness.

Makes people feel loved and valued.

Increases happiness and self-esteem.

Makes people feel warmer, literally.

Creates increased optimism about the future.

This holiday season, give the gift of nostalgia. Create photo gifts, initiate a “trip” down memory lane and share your fondest stories. Keep taking those photos and videos, and please do display them! They have a greater positive impact than what they’re given credit for. They truly do make a difference in the lives of those who cross their paths.

Until next time...enjoy making memories!

In Motion

Whew! It’s been a long journey. A journey worthwhile, though. This business has been years in the making, many more than anticipated. I’ve invested a lot of time and effort into learning and creating. I’ve also gotten stuck many times. I'm so happy to be back in motion! Thanks to It's Business Time, I've eliminated future regrets and am super excited to finally say, “Welcome to my business home.”

I've learned a lot up to this point. Many lessons are common sense, but as I get wrapped up in day-to-day life, I need to be reminded. There’s no doubt I will be referring back to these lessons as I continue forward momentum:

Baby steps will lead me further than I ever imagined.

It’s okay to invest in myself. In fact, it’s essential if I want to grow and better serve others.

Accountability is key. I will accomplish much more if I have at least one accountability buddy and a support network.

If something has been lurking in my mind, it exists for a reason. It’s not going to disappear until I do something about it. It's up to me to choose what that something will be.

I’m my biggest critic. It’s vital I hang onto the exciting to move beyond the scary. It’ll be worth the discomfort.

I’m capable of more than I give myself credit for.

Commitment and discipline make a huge impact. It’s my responsibility to make time for what’s most important to me and to stick with it, even if it’s not desirable in the moment. It’ll reap benefits down the road.

I have to let go of things to make room for new opportunities.

The best thing I can do for myself and for others is to be authentic.

Everyone starts somewhere. I must not become paralyzed by perfectionism. Instead, I must embrace imperfection and the growth opportunities that come with it.

As you go after your own dreams, I encourage you to be gentle on yourself. Follow your recurring desires without expecting overnight success. Enjoy every step of every journey, recognizing that there will always be evolving pieces. Be proud of how far you’ve come and stay intrigued for what’s ahead. Most importantly, stay in motion!

In conclusion, a BIG THANK YOU to Michelle Ward, Tiffany Han, Erin Cassidy and my It’s Business Time peeps for helping me to shift my mindset, move beyond obstacles and get my business off the ground! I will forever be grateful. Hugs (and happy dances of course) all around!

I am super excited to share my storybook creations, storytelling tips and favorite resources with you in my upcoming newsletters!

Until next time...enjoy making memories!

The Storybook Revolution Begins!

Hi and welcome! I’m thrilled to have you joining me on this storybook revolution! I’m Angela Winsor, a memory designer who is passionate about helping others get their stories into the world. Since childhood, I’ve found photos to be magical. They have this innate ability to attract attention, bring back memories, infuse emotions and initiate conversation. Over the years, I’ve grown to appreciate the combination of photos and words. Whether it’s names, a story or a quote included with photos, I’ve found the photo experience becomes more intimate. It teaches. It enriches. It entertains. This has led me to storybook creation…a perfect way for me to co-mingle my love of photos, writing and design to help others make their mark.

I’m a strong believer in the significant impact storytelling has on loved ones. I’ve seen families reminisce over photos countless times. There’s almost always laughter and sometimes tears. Unfortunately, missing pieces to the stories often leave people wondering. My hope is to fill this void by helping individuals recognize the value of documenting their photos and stories for generations to come. A little wisdom goes a long way!

As I embark on my own storybook revolution, I’ll be sharing my progress. I’ll display storybooks I’ve created for my family and friends, take you inside of my storybook creation process, provide information about my favorite resources, discuss ways in which I find inspiration and offer tips and tricks to get you started on documenting your own stories.

I’m looking forward to making a difference together, one memory at a time!
